Hacktoberfest 2023

HacktoberFest is a month-long celebration of open source software, brought to you by DigitalOcean, Intel, and DEV. It's a time to contribute to open source projects, learn new skills, and connect with the open source community.

This year, Hacktoberfest is celebrating its 10th anniversary! In the past 9 years, over 2.5 million people have contributed to open source projects during Hacktoberfest.

How to participate in Hacktoberfest

To participate in Hacktoberfest, create a pull request (PR) on any open source project on GitHub. Your PR must be merged and accepted by the project maintainers. You can contribute to any project, regardless of your skill level. There are many beginner-friendly projects that you can contribute to.

How to find projects to contribute to

There are many ways to find projects to contribute to on GitHub. You can browse the trending repositories, search for projects that you're interested in, or ask your friends and colleagues for recommendations.

Tips for contributing to open source projects

  • Start small. Don't try to fix everything in one PR.
  • Be respectful of the project maintainers. They are volunteers who are giving their time to maintain the project.
  • Be patient. It may take some time for your PR to be merged.
